Coding

1. I used Scratch to play around with coding. I used the moving with arrow keys Tutorial  Then I  completed a coding activity where I moved a monkey to his banana using arrow keys. I had to code what each key did when it was pressed. It was pretty fun. I struggled at first but found it was pretty simple once you understood what to do. I learned that coding is just creating directions for keys or processes. I think this can be a great tool in education while learning physics concepts like motion, space, and relativity. It would be beneficial for elementary students because of the simplicity. It can be a fun interactive way for students to play around with the concepts and gain a deeper meaning about them.

2. The unplugged activity is called Marching Orders. It is for ages 7 and up. It doesn't give the approximate time. Materials: cards with pictures such as the ones shown on the next page. Each child will need a pencil, paper, and ruler.
This activity gives children experience with programming. It shows students that programming includes using a coding language that is limited and sometimes computers do exactly what you tell them to do to the letter of the coding language, even if it produces a crazy result. Students practice following directions in different ways and giving directions to see if people can produce the wanted product.

From Birth to Missoula

I created a map from my birthplace to my current home. I was born in Havre, Montana and now I live in Missoula, Montana near Frenchtown. This was kind of fun to create and mess around with. It's 291 miles.

First Post- A Little About Me

Hi, I'm Della and I'm currently attending the University of Montana for Elementary Education. I hope to teach grades 3rd to 5th but I would still be thrilled to teach other grades. I was born and raised in Montana and want to stay in this beautiful state after I graduate. I enjoy outdoor recreation, games, spending time with my family (which includes my puppy), reading, cooking, and traveling.

So adorable!
